Nothingness-Revisited!

I was kind of amused when i read a story! The story/article read-

A young lad, of about 10-12 years, known for his naughtiness all around was sitting on a porch, tired waiting for his mother to call him up for food. Being really tired after a long hulla bulla day, he just watched the beautiful sun setting and disappearing in the expanse of sky, splashing with colors! His mother realizes that her son was not anywhere to be seen around and she assumes that he must be up to something naughty again. Busy with her cooking, she calls out, rather yells-Son, where are you? The boy replies back to her in a tired tone-mumma, i am here, sitting at the porch, when will the food be ready?

Her conviction grows stronger and she asks her son-what are you doing? the boy replies, nothing! Not satisfied, the lady again says-son, tell me what are you doing, be a good boy and tell me, alas, she gets the same answer. The same question, the same answer-the session continues for sometimes. The lady, in a furious tone by now, says, lad, if you are not going to tell me what you are doing exactly, you won’t get the food! Tired by her mothers questions and unable to think of getting in to bed without food, the boy finally replies, mom, i am just playing with the grass here. Within a minute, he hears his mom, yelling at him, about she has toiled hard to create the lawn, reminding him that how last time he had plucked the flowers and ordering him to stay at a good distance from the flowers. After that, the house again sinks in to quietness and not a word is heard till dinner!

Why i have put up this story here is because of the fact that people seriously don’t accept ‘NOTHING’ as an answer. Why is it so hard to accept that we can be doing nothing genuinely at times? Even i practice my part of nothing but then like the li’l kid i am forced to alter my answer to something! Is doing nothing that weird and strange? How many of you practice it? For me, it has more power then introspection or meditation itself! Yeah, for a hardcore workalcoholic, it would be simply-’a hell lot of wastage of time’! But i can say that it is worth it….Do nothing….

{P.S-This was my second-yes;) – very second post! Revisited on one of my very sweet friends request! }

Thanks for the image

For me, doing nothing is ‘my mental status’ when I’m tired of doing same old job and feel like running away from everything.Last night someone was analysing me and asking,You got so many friends;but, still, why are you alone?. I dont have answer.May be I love this ‘doing nothing’ moments. Sometimes;even pain gives all the pleasure you know :D

    wut a great post.

And I thought abt the same thing last nite! As I was watching Beijing Olympics Stories…a young Chinese girl of abt 8yrs of age who is competing in Gymnastics said this:

“Life wont give you a Gold Medal for doing Nothing”

but I didnt agree with her. I know that she’s talking abt her passion and thats ok. But sometimes we hv to accept that doing NOTHING is ok…sometimes we humans need to do NOTHING too. And some ppl dun accept that at all unless someone is always DOING something.

U dun hv to be at your best all the time. Thats what I believe.

    Keshi.

An Amazing write up, and compels u to think about. When i started readiing that article, it was so casual, i mean towards the end of it, i was like, why the hell its here…? And then in the latter part of it i got my Answer, and how true it was.
Thanks to the Sinner’s freind, because of whome, i got to read this again, i would have definetely missed it otherwise.

“Nothing” the most common answers and yet sooo much unacceptable.

  44. Mudit says:

@writer:- u have said ‘nothing’ but the truth..

i came across this explanation of the state of nothingness. It surely clicks to me:-

In some Eastern philosophies, the concept of “nothingness” is characterized by an egoless state of being in which one fully realizes one’s own small part in the cosmos.

came across another interesting fact on ‘nothing’ :-

Grammatically, the word “nothing” is an indefinite pronoun, which means that it refers to something. One might argue that “nothing” is a concept, and since concepts are things, the concept of “nothing” itself is a thing. This logical fallacy is neatly demonstrated by the joke syllogism that contains a fallacy of four terms:

    1. The Devil is greater than nothing.
    2. Nothing is greater than God.
    3. The Devil is greater than God.

The four terms in this example are God, the Devil, nothing-as-a-thing which the Devil is greater than, and nothing as no-thing or not-some-thing (some thing is not greater than God). The error in the conclusion stems from equating nothing-as-a-thing with no-thing which is invalid logic.

Tricky no..seems like ‘nothing’ went into d head..

  45. Pacifier Returns says:

Doing nothing itself is doing something..
i hope you got what i mean :)

    Smiles :)
    Prashant
